Lonville Classic 2011

In 2011, another rather eventful edition of the Lonville Classic took place and proved once again the beauty and excitement of our shared passion of classic cars – and the fact that you never know what may happen.

With more than half of last year’s entries returning, the Thursday evening welcome cocktail in the stunning garden of Villa Sassa felt like a reunion of old friends.

The beautiful view of lake Lugano, the easy-going ambience, and some good wine set the tone for the great long week-end to come for participants that travelled from England, Sweden, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, France and Luxemburg to join the rally.

On Friday morning participants were immediately on their way to lake Como for a series of timed stages on winding lake and mountain roads, a lake ferry crossing and lunch with a view in one of our favourite restaurants in Moltrasio near Como.

On Saturday it was time for laggo Maggiore while on Sunday we ended up on the central square in Luagno, with all participants dressed to match their cars – a wonderful view.

To allow for all tastes, for the first time, we introduced a few optional routes. As the roadbook said about Friday’s option: “The optional route is 10km longer, largely single track and has more curves than Sofia Loren in your wildest dreams”. Matthew Humphries could hardly wipe the grin of his face when his Morgan appeared 10 mins early at the time-check. Naughty boy.

In it’s third year, the Lonville Classic provided another version of what we feel is a great classic car weekend should be all about: great company, beautiful surroundings, spirited driving interrupted by good food and a sense of humour. See you next year?
